Advent Series

For Catholics, Advent is a season of preparation, marked by the four weeks leading up to Christmas. Derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming," the season invites us to prepare our hearts and minds. It is a time of anticipation and reflection, focusing on the coming of Jesus Christ, both in his nativity at Bethlehem and his future return. As we journey through these four weeks of preparation, we light a new candle on the Advent wreath every Sunday.

Each week of Advent highlights a specific theme, traditionally represented by the candles on the wreath. The first week centers on Hope, recalling the promises of a Messiah and the hope of salvation. The second week focuses on Peace, reflecting on Christ as the Prince of Peace who reconciles humanity with God. The third week emphasizes Joy, often marked by a rose-colored candle, celebrating the joy of Christ's arrival and the joy he brings to the world. The fourth week highlights Love, reminding us of God’s immense love in sending His Son.

We invite you to journey through Advent with Fr. John Fisher, OSFS, as he shares his Advent series here.
