Salesianum to Host Kenney Baseball Dimond Dedication

Wilmington, DE: Honoring Salesianum’s First President, Legendary Baseball Coach, and Hall of Fame Inductee Fr. Robert Kenney, OSFS ‘42

This Saturday, April 12th, at 11:30 AM, the Salesianum School community is invited to Fusco Fields to enjoy the Kenney Baseball Diamond Dedication Ceremony celebration before Salesianum’s home varsity baseball game versus Sussex Central.

The event will feature food and refreshments and celebrate the life and legacy of alumnus Rev. Robert D. Kenney, OSFS, ’42, who, notably, was Salesianum’s first president - a position he held for more than 25 years and his service as the school’s legendary baseball coach from 1957 to 1991.

Fr. Kenney was also a former teacher, athletic director, and principal during his storied career at Salesianum. In honor of his accomplishment as Delaware’s winningest high school baseball coach in state history, Fr. Kenney was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

Salesianum’s President, Dr. Tom Kardish, shares, “Fusco Fields and the Kenney Diamond are two incredible facilities that honor two remarkable men. There’s no better way to tell the story of their collective grit, hard work, and tenacity than in a facility like Fusco Fields, where athletes learn those lessons daily.”

Saturday’s event will reunite generations of Salesianum’s baseball players, their families, and coaches for the unveiling of Kenney’s Lineup Card, a dugout mural featuring the signatures of every state champion baseball player since 1976. You are invited to join as Salesianum adds another chapter to its remarkable history and “swing for the fences” to celebrate baseball, one of its greats, and its ongoing impact on the holistic development of Salesian Gentlemen and students everywhere.
